Incoming Application Instructions

In order to attend TRU as an exchange/study abroad student, you must be studying at one of TRU's formal exchange/study abroad partner institutions, and they must nominate you for an exchange/study abroad at TRU. Contact your university's International or Exchange Office to find out more about the application procedure, application deadlines, and selection process. An application will not be accepted directly from a student without prior nomination and permissions.

Program and Course Details

Restrictions: TRU is currently only able to offer exchange for incoming students wishing to study at the undergraduate level. Due to demand and space restrictions, some courses and academic programs have limited or restricted access for exchange/study abroad students. Key program areas for Undergraduate options only.

NOTE: Graduate Programs are currently NOT available for exchange. Enquiries should be made directly to those specific Graduate Programs

  • Arts and Humanities (Fine Arts, Geography, Journalism, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, English, Geography and Environmental Studies, History, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Political Sciences, Theatre)
  • Business (Accounting, Economics, Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, International Business, Entrepreneurship)
  • ESL (Foundations ESL, English & Communication, English for Academic Purposes, English & Fine Arts, English & Accounting, English & Business, English and Economics, English)
  • Health Sciences, Sciences and Environment (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Natural Resource Science, Environmental Studies)
  • Tourism (Management, Events and Conventions, Resort and Hotel, and Adventure Studies)

IMPORTANT TOURISM INFORMATION: English is a pre-requisite for all Tourism courses. Proof of language level is required. Students are eligible to take 3rd and 4th year Adventure Tourism courses and will be responsible to pay for all associated and additional course fees, which are subject to change. This also applies to any and all additional activity fees for Tourism courses within all program areas outside of exchange agreements with a Partner Institution.

Limited or Restricted Programs: Due to demand and space restrictions, some courses and academic programs have limited or restricted access for exchange/study abroad students: Computing Science, Engineering, Nursing, Education, Social Work.

Academic Calendar

Access the current TRU Academic Calendar for program, course descriptions, credit value and contact hour, along with pre-requisites information and important dates can be found at: http://www.tru.ca/calendar.html

The calendar contains semester dates and assists students with course titles, codes, descriptions and credit values, along with contact hours. A TRU semester is 15 weeks in length, with 13 weeks of face-to-face instruction and 2 week final exam period.

Course Schedules and Descriptions

How to Search for Courses:

  • Select which term you're planning at studying at TRU (Fall or Winter). Note: Do not select any terms that say "OL Division Only"
  • Select which subject you'd like to see courses for and click "Class Search." The courses available for that semester will load with their days of instruction, time, location, and professor.
  • Click on "View Catalog Entry" to view Course descriptions, learning outcomes, and pre-requisites. Other information includes: Course title, code, credit value, and contact hours.
  • NOTE: Course offerings will be updated prior to arrival. Once your application has been received by the Study Abroad Office, students will be provided with a summary of course offerings and provided instructions for future planning of courses. Students are asked to have patience for when the Academic Calendar will be officially posted.

Before you begin your application please take a look at our detailed application instructions.

Once your home university's international office has submitted a nomination for you, you will receive an email from TRU with a link to start the online application.

Incoming Program URL: (Please do not complete the online application until you have received an email from TRU)

You will be asked to upload the following supporting documents to your online application (no hard copy documents are required):

  • Official Transcript
  • Colour Passport style photo
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency
  • Learning Agreement - will be asked to submit a minimum of 5 course requests to be included on your Learning Agreement

Once you have submitted your online application please wait for your letter of acceptance from TRU.
